    Most cars use four-stroke engine. The four-stroke engine has four strokes: suction stroke, compression stroke, work stroke and exhaust stroke. During the intake stroke, the piston will move down and the intake valve will open, sucking air or a combustible mixture into the cylinder. During the compression stroke, the intake and exhaust valves are closed, and the piston moves up, compressing the flammable mixture. During the power stroke, the intake and exhaust valves are closed, and the spark plug ignites the combustible mixture, burning out the combustible mixture and propelling the piston. During the exhaust stroke, the exhaust valve will open and the piston will move up, expelling the combustion gases from the cylinder. When the engine is running, it will continue to cycle these four strokes.
